From brief to finished pack: keep a shared reference.
Agreement points for purchasing, brand teams and the manufacturer at each stage.
This guide helps you choose a packaging format by starting from the product to be packed, using three questions: containment, opening and protection.

Product categories are a starting point. Your project’s structure should be tried with the actual product and packing method, not chosen from an attractive photograph alone.
Record dimensions, shapes, item count and areas needing support. For a multi-item set, discuss the internal arrangement, clearances and how each item is removed.
The pack needs to work for both the packing team and recipient. Try assembly, loading, closing and reopening, and record difficult or confusing steps.
Use the same brief when discussing folding cartons, printed corrugated boxes or rigid boxes. Bags, labels and tags contribute differently to the brand presentation and do not automatically replace a box’s containment and protection.
